About Round Table

Round Table from the South East
Round Table from the South East
Round Table is a traditional Lakeland cottage dating from the 17th century, and on the quieter side of Lake Windermere, close to the village of Far Sawrey, 2 miles from Beatrix Potter's house in Near Sawrey, and only 3 miles from Hawkshead, . The Cottage is built in traditional local style with thick stone walls rendered white under a slate roof. The rectangular dining room and sitting room, as well as three of the bedrooms upstairs are over 300 years old. The house is even reputed to have been a hostelry serving the road over Claife Heights. The "extension" is early Victorian and even here the walls are up to 3 feet thick.

The house was saved from dereliction in the 1950s with teak fittings reputed to have come from a ship.

The cottage retains beamed ceilings and there is hardly a level floor in the place. There are views of the Lake from every room except the bathroom.

As we and our predecessors have slowly modernised the house we have tried to keep the best original features while enjoying the facilities of the 21st century.
