About Round Table

Round Table from the South
Round Table from the south

Round Table, which sleeps up to 8 people,  is a sensitively updated traditional Lakeland cottage dating from the 17th century on the quiet side of Lake Windermere with views down to the Lake.

The Cottage is built in traditional local style with stone walls 3 feet thick and slate roof. The oldest, main part of the house is over 300 years old. The house is even reputed to have been a hostelry serving the road over Claife Heights.

The house was saved from dereliction in the 1950s with teak doors reputedly made from wood salvaged from a ship. The cottage retains beamed ceilings and there is hardly a level floor in the place. There are views of the Lake from every room except the bathroom.

As we and our predecessors have slowly modernised the house we have tried to keep the best original features while enjoying the facilities of the 21st century.

We have recently added a small extension which has replaced an ugly 1950s garage with a lovely new entrance, shower room, upstairs studio / bedroom, as well as installing lots of lots of insulation and a brand new boiler.

How many people can stay?

Round Table has accommodation for up to 8 people in 5 rooms. See accommodation for more details.
