These photos are taken from my grandfather's archives. Walter Bowles was holder of a PPL with group A and B, having learned to fly at Hendon in the 30s.
He taught pilots in Zimbabwe (then Southern Rhodesia) in the second world war, flying Tiger Moths, Harvards and Ansons. He also clocked up what must be a record breaking 5,000 hours in a Link Trainer (photo to follow.) He then raced after the war in the National Air Races, winning the Norton-Griffiths Trophy three times, the Goodyear Trophy and the Osram Cup. He came second to the legendary Pat Fillingham in the King's Cup.
